Common Window Problems & Solutions
How do I fix clogged weep holes on my windows?
Weep holes allow water to drain from your window frame. If they become clogged, you may notice pooling water or streaks. Look for them on the exterior side of the window just below the glass, and clear them gently using a pipe cleaner, cotton swab, or small soft-bristled brush.
Why don’t my windows slide or open smoothly?
Dirt and debris in the track can cause sticking. Clean the track thoroughly with a damp micro-fiber towel and apply a silicone-based lubricant. If the issue persists, our team can inspect the rollers or alignment.
What does condensation between window panes mean?
Fogging or moisture between glass panes signals a failed seal. Our technicians can evaluate whether resealing is possible through a warranty claim with the manufacturer if we installed it, or if a full replacement is needed. If we installed the window, we will work with the manufacturer to handle the warranty claim directly if it applies.
What should I do if I notice air leakage or drafts from my windows?
If you feel drafts even when windows are closed, check the weatherstripping for cracks or gaps. Persistent air leaks may mean the frame or seals are worn and need professional attention.
Can you repair broken window glass or damaged screens?
We can assess the damage and determine whether glass replacement or a full window replacement would be the most cost-effective solution in the long run.
Common Exterior Door Problems & Solutions
Why is my exterior door sticking or hard to open?
Dirt, debris, or misalignment in the door frame can cause sticking. Clean the threshold and hinges with a damp microfiber cloth and apply a silicone-based lubricant to the hinges. For persistent issues, our team can inspect for frame warping or hinge damage and recommend adjustments or full replacements.
How do I fix squeaky or noisy exterior door hinges?
Hinges on exterior doors in Arizona may squeak due to wear. It's rare, but possible, that rust may be present, although our dry climate usually keeps rust away. Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant or white lithium grease to the hinge pins. If squeaking continues, we can assess whether hinge replacement is needed to restore smooth operation. If the door is getting old or faded though, we offer beautiful door solutions.
What should I do about drafts or air leaks around my doors?
If you feel drafts around your exterior door, check the weatherstripping for cracks or compression. Replace worn weatherstripping with a compatible self-adhesive or push-in strip from a hardware store. For large glass sliders, inspect the edge seals. Persistent leaks may indicate a need for professional resealing or complete door replacement.
Why is my large glass sliding door difficult to slide?
Large glass sliders can become hard to open due to debris in the track or worn rollers. Vacuum the track to remove dirt and clean with a damp cloth. Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the track (generally avoid petroleum-based products). If the slider still sticks on a door we installed, our technicians can inspect the rollers or track alignment for repair or replacement.
What causes condensation or fogging in glass slider panes?
Moisture or fogging between the glass panes of a slider indicates a failed seal. For American Vision Windows-installed sliders, we can evaluate warranty eligibility and coordinate with the manufacturer for a claim. If replacement is needed, we’ll discuss energy-efficient options tailored to your home.
Can cracked or damaged door glass be repaired?
Cracked glass in exterior doors or sliders poses safety and insulation risks. Avoid using the door until it’s assessed. We can determine whether glass replacement is feasible or if a full door replacement is more cost-effective, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
How do I fix a loose or wobbly door handle?
Loose handles on exterior doors or sliders compromise security. Tighten screws with a screwdriver, checking for stripped screws, damaged mounting plates, or worn screw holes. If the handle remains loose or the lock mechanism is faulty, your frame or door may be at the end of its useful life. Contact us if you are interested in a new door with quality hardware to restore functionality.
